The BEHI Project

Betreutes Hilfswerk – Unterstützung für bedürftige Familien in Sri Lanka

"Get Involved" supports over 30 families with donations where one or more family members are mentally or physically disabled. Every month, on the full moon day, these families receive a food package.

The BEHI project urgently depends on your donations. Even with an amount of CHF 30.- we can guarantee essential support to a family.

How It All Began

The BEHI (Betreutes Hilfswerk) is an aid project of Hilda Guest House in Sri Lanka. For many years we have been supporting families in need in the region with monthly food packages, medical care and educational support.

With just CHF 30 per month you can sustainably help a family. Every cent goes directly to the families – no administrative costs.

We Remember Urs

We thank Urs heartily for his donations. Unfortunately, he passed away after a long illness. His wish was that the proceeds from an item go to Sri Lanka (for Mach Mit).

Now his sister and her partner came to us and gave us CHF 2'000.

"We dearly wish Urs to find his peace."

Success Stories

Moments that bring hope

Every full moon day, the families come to pick up their food package. Whether on foot, by bicycle or by tuk-tuk, despite the hardships and life-burdening circumstances, this moment brings a happy feeling and a smile to everyone.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the tireless dedication and assistance of Chaminda and his friends, who took care of all bureaucratic activities and prepared the food packages.

We would like to extend special thanks to Ms. Beate Wolff. With her very generous donation of 1,000 CHF, she set the first milestone for this great endeavor.

Support During the Crisis

Help when it is needed most

In the current political crisis in Sri Lanka, we want to turn to people who need help and support.

We thank Beatrice & Heinz Feller and Urs Stauffer for the generous donation. Through your financial support, 387 families each received 10 kilos of rice & 90 students received vouchers to buy school materials.

Samali's Story

Building a house for a family in need

In winter 2013/2014, Chaminda identified another family that urgently needed our help. It was an abandoned woman named Samali Nadika with her two children.

Behind the house, the foundation walls for a new house already existed, but it could never be built. Hilda and I visited the family, took photos and immediately began collecting money.

The first stone was laid in March 2014. On June 20, the electricity was connected.

To avoid jealousy among the neighbors, the house was not fully completed.

The Elderly Women's Home

From care facility to meditation center

We gratefully received your donations for the elderly women's home. With great enthusiasm, we began building a beautiful home in 2017.

Over time, our euphoria turned into a great concern. It was not possible to find suitable, qualified nursing staff.

After numerous discussions, we decided to make the premises available as a Buddhist meditation center.

The disability project, which has been running successfully for 8 years thanks to your generous donations, will of course continue.
